Boot SCOOTin' boogie

How exciting! A Developmental Milestone!

So, remember how in the previous blog post I was writing about how Zack can't crawl or anything yet?  As I was typing, Zack figured out how to scoot!  This is a big thing because he is developmentally a little behind on the crawling thing (I'm guessing it's cause he has such a huge head.  It's probably really hard to hold up ;).  David and I were getting a bit worried about it and were even praying for Zack to start catching up in that department.  The Lord works quickly sometimes and within a day or two some obvious progress was made!!  And boy, were we all thrilled!   Zackary used to just cry when he was put on his tummy.

I had set Zacky down right next to me so I could write a new blog entry and when I looked up, he was across the room.  So far he can only move backwards, that's why he's getting farther away with each picture.  The last one was taken from where Zack had started out.

I even took a little video of the scooting in action.

That's the big news from the Lowe household.  Now the next adventure will be babyfproofing the house!

Here we go, one more time. Everybody's feeling fine. Here we go now

Very little happens in my day-to-day life and the most exciting thing I have to report is that we got a new blender... yay.  So:
Goodbye crappy, old, melted, plastic blender...
Hello new, sexy, stainless steel blender! (With a glass pitcher)

It really is a good blender.  We got it on major sale and it's a huge upgrade.  Moral to the story--There are silver linings to me doing stupid things!

Zack has made a couple of new friends lately.  (Translation: mommy has friends with babies and has invited them over, so she doesn't go crazy)   I've reconnected with one of my best friends, Kelsey, from high school and she just had a baby in October and named him Xavier.  Right before she came over she said "Just wait until you see him, he's so big"  HA!  I said to myself.  Wait until she sees Zackary.  So, she came over and I saw her teeny baby and I sat my giant baby next to him and I took this picture.  It looks like one of those forced perspective pictures where the babies are actually the same size, but the small baby is just sitting really far behind the big one. But, no.  Zack really is that much bigger.

Another old friend of mine, Triana, brought her baby Gavin over, and he is the same age as Zack.  It turns out, he's the same size, too!  It made me feel much better about having such a hefty kid. Now, if I could only get him to crawl...

Since Zackary can't crawl yet, he compensates for it by reaching as far forward as possible.  He is able to lay his whole upper body on the ground while he is sitting. I wish I was this flexible!  I could have used it!
This next picture was taken at Bombay house.  So for those of you who are jealous because you're not here...this is for you!   Maybe it will be motivation for you to come visit.

I've begun a new hobby, which I hope won't go the way of all my other projects (which is nowhere) .  I have a ton of old t-shirts from various shows I've done, or places I've been which I didn't want to get rid of.  A few of my friends have made patchwork quilts out of their old t-shirts, so I decided I need one, too.  I only have about half the squares cut out that I need so far.  It's hard! Well, its more tedious than anything. Maybe the sewing part will be more fun, we'll see!  Please bless I finish it before I my attention runs out.

Fun times

So, it's been a good year thus far.  I've been able to practice the primary songs on the piano and get out of the house almost every day.  The resolutions have stuck for the first week, at least! Keep your fingers crossed for me.

Many times in my life, I've done stupid things without thinking.  I've been hoping that eventually I'd grow out of it, but I haven't yet.  The likelihood that I ever will is growing slim.  This next story is no exception.  The other day I was cooking quesadillas on our griddle.  What I didn't realize was that the griddle plate is about as high off the counter as the buttons on the blender, which was also on the counter.  So, later that day when I tried to clean off the griddle, I pulled it toward me and the blender came with it.  I couldn't figure out why until I looked at the back of the griddle and pried it off of the melted plastic buttons of the blender.  I hoped that it would somehow miraculously still work, but no.  I ruined a perfectly good blender.  Oh, well... Here is the evidence.  The black thing is the edge of the griddle that did the melting.
Good job, me.

I really like this picture because our eyes are almost exactly the same color.  Sometimes I don't see any resemblance of me in Zack, so it's good to know my genes are lurking in there somewhere!

Today I went to visit my sister-in law Sarah and her 2 kids.  Her sister's baby was also there, so it got a little crazy.  We decided all the boys needed a bath so, we took all 4 of them and put them in Sarah's HUGE bathtub.  Lots of cute, naked babies!  It was really cute.

Diaper babies!

The picture session didn't last too long.  Two of the babies took off in different directions and Zack started to cry.  It was cute while it lasted.

2008 Resolutions

8 resolutions for 2008!!
I was tagged and now my job is to tell all y'all my resolutions for this year.  (I wasn't really thinking about it before, to be honest.  But, eh, might as well have some goals for this year  :)  10 seemed like too many, so here we go.  My 8 New Years Resolutions:
1. Be able to play the primary songs on the piano.  We recently inherited a piano-a real one!  And I got the Primary Children's Songbook for Christmas.  I can already play "I Am A Child Of God"  pretty well.  Only about 300 to go... (one per day, I guess) So that leads to my next resolution:
2. Practice the piano every day.  Or at least 4 times a week. (Amy, you may think I stole this resolution from you, but I didn't.  I was already thinking about this before I saw your resolutions, so there!) This will be a tricky one because I am a wonderful procrastinator.  OH! Here we go--

3. Stop procrastinating!  This includes cleaning, practicing, going to bed, and preparing any church lessons or talks.

4. Get out of the house more often.  I get feeling too cooped up and bored.  Which leads to me getting grumpy and boring.

5. Watch less TV!  Hopefully, the fulfillment of number 4 will help with this one.

6. Cook dinner more often. David and I go out to eat Waaaaay to much! Plus, I need to learn how to become a good cook.

7. Eat less candy........(methinks this one might not stick...)

8. Do more random acts of service.  I have been served in a lot of ways this year.  I need to pay it forward to other people around me.

So, there we are!  Let's hope I can fulfill some of these goals this year.  Maybe now that they're written down, I'll actually remember them.

Since I'm a first-time parent, I've take a lot of pictures of my baby.  I mean a LOT!!  So, you all get to benefit from it.  :)
More Snot pictures!
I got Zack out of the car this morning and his face was covered with snot!!
This picture doesn't do justice to the amount of snot on his face.  It was even in his eyelashes.

And about an hour later he sneezed a HEEEEEGE snot bubble, but I didn't get the camera in time. I caught the aftermath, though.  Just a little.
I know I'm gross, I just think it's hilarious
I sat down to practice the piano (Number 1 & 2!) and I set Zack on the floor near his diaper bag.  About 15 minutes later, I looked back at him and he had COMPLETELY unloaded it
Everytime Zacky wakes up from a nap, his cheeks are very red.  We call him "tomato cheeks"

Heppy New Year

Happy New Year!!

We partied hard with David's family for New Year's Eve.  If by partying hard you mean snacking and watching my brothers-in-law set up a new plasma TV for a a few hours.  No, it was actually really fun.  All the babies were sick with the same nasty cold that Zack has.  So, they were pretty grumpy.  Luckily, they all went to bed pretty early and the adults got to socialize till about 4 in the morning.  We regretted it today, though.  It's a lot harder to stay up late when you have babies.

This is what Zack has looked like for the last 4 days straight.  Lots of snot.

More pictures from Christmas

We rarely get all 3 of us in the same picture, so this is a rarity!  I had to put it up

Our nephew Jackson played the Angel in the Christmas program.  He loves his cousin Zack

This was the coolest toy we got from David's mom.  Each side of this cube is a different song and activity.  I think David and I liked it more than Zack.

Zackary with his Uncle Allen.  We call this the skwunchy face.

A New Blog Calls Across the Ocean

Ok, so I love reading people's blogs to see what they're up to, so I (we) decided to get one of my (our) own.  Really, I (Laurel) am just bored a lot and thought that I'd do something more productive with my computer time than just take quizzes on facebook and look up actors on imdb.  So, this is a way for me to keep busy, and to keep anybody who's interested informed about the goings on at the Lowe household.

Christmas was really fun.  It was Zackary's first Christmas and he spent most of his time either being overwhelmed, or playing with the wrapping paper.  My mom bought him a toy school bus that makes noise and flashes lights which he LOVES, but only when it's making noise.  (thanks Grandma)

On Christmas Eve, Zack got to be the baby Jesus in the Christmas program at the Lowes house.  The basket he's in is supposed to be the manger.

We "slept" over at my parent's house on Christmas Eve . Zackary was up most of the night because he was in a new, noisy place.  So, he looks a bit tired in this picture.

We've recently discovered that Zack fit's perfectly in the kitchen sink, so he's been taking baths in there lately.

Right now Zacky is sick with a chest cold.  So, he's been whining and crying and coughing all day with a hoarse voice.  He's also been dripping snot all down his face and smearing around.  Despite everything, he's still surprisingly cute.
